Planina App is free, and most of it works without an account. This page says plainly what the app and this website collect, why, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.

Who we are

Planina App is made and published by HypeTech, a company registered in the Republic of Serbia. Legal name and registered address: [HypeTech legal name and address]. We decide what the app collects and why, so we are the controller of that data.

Write to us at hello@planina.app about anything on this page.

What we collect

On your device only

Without an account, nothing personal about you is stored on our servers. The app keeps a few settings on the phone itself:

  • Your language and your light or dark theme.
  • The mountain and the season you chose.
  • The last position of the map camera, so it opens where you left it.
  • A marker for the news you have already seen.

These never leave the phone and they go when you delete the app.

With an account

An account is optional. You sign in with a link sent to your email address, so there is no password. With an account we store:

  • Your email address.
  • Your display name.
  • The comments you write on places and news articles.
  • Your votes on comments, and any comment you report.
  • Your sign-in session, so you stay signed in.

There are no ads in the app, no payments, and we never sell any of this.

From this website

The site stores your language and theme choice in your browser. If you enter your email address in the launch form, that address goes to our newsletter provider. Beyond that, the usage counting and the error reporting described below.

Location

The app asks for location only while it is open, the permission iOS and Android call "when in use". The permission text says: "Planina App uses your location to show your position on the map".

We use it to:

  • Show your own position on the map.
  • Open on the mountain nearest to you.
  • Draw directions to a place, and guide you turn by turn.
  • Fill in the coordinates when you choose to share a dropped pin, for example an injury message or a meeting point.

Your location is not stored on our servers and it is not sent to anybody to profile you. There is one technical exception. Map tiles and route calculation come from Mapbox, so Mapbox receives the map requests needed to draw the map and work out a route.

You can refuse the permission or turn it off later. The app still works. You just pick your mountain yourself and you do not see your own position.

Third parties

This is everyone who can see data because of the app or this site:

WhoWhat they getWhy
MapboxMap and routing requests, which include the area you are looking atMap tiles, 3D terrain and directions
SupabaseYour account data and comments, if you have an accountOur hosted database and sign-in
Skijališta SrbijeNothing about youLift status and weather station readings, fetched by our backend on a schedule
Weather providerNothing about youForecasts, fetched by our backend, not by your phone
Webcam providersYour request for a snapshot or a stream, including your IP addressWebcam images load from their servers when you open the webcams sheet
ButtondownThe email address you type into the form on this siteThe launch mailing list
PostHogUsage events: which pages and screens are opened and what is used, plus your approximate location from your IP address and your device and browserCounting how the app and this site are used, on EU servers
SentryError reports: the error and its stack trace, the page it happened on and your browser and deviceFinding and fixing what breaks, on EU servers

Analytics and error reporting

Two services show us how Planina App is used and what breaks in it. Both keep their data on servers in the European Union. Neither is an advertising network and neither follows you to other websites.

PostHog counts usage. It gets an event when a page or a screen is opened and when something is used: a store button pressed, the season or the language switched, a screenshot flicked through. With each event it gets your approximate location, worked out from your IP address and no closer than a city, and your device and browser. It keeps an identifier in your browser, in a cookie and in local storage, so a second visit is not counted as a new one. We never give it your name, your email address or your position on the map.

Sentry receives error reports. When something breaks, it gets the error and its stack trace, the address of the page and your browser and device. That is what tells us a screen is broken for somebody. There is no session recording and no performance tracing.

In the app, analytics can be turned off in Profile, and after that nothing about your usage is sent. Crash reporting stays on either way: a crash that happens only on your phone reaches us no other way.

On this website a browser that sends “Do Not Track” is not counted at all, and while the two services are not configured neither script is loaded.

Email list

If the launch form is open on this site, it is handled by Buttondown. You get a confirmation email first and you are only on the list once you click the link in it. We use the address for launch news and nothing else, and every email carries an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes the address.

Retention and deletion

WhatHow long we keep it
Settings on your deviceUntil you delete the app
Email address and display nameUntil your account is deleted
Comments and votesUntil you delete them, or until your account is deleted
Sign-in sessionUntil you sign out or it expires
Mailing list addressUntil you unsubscribe

In the app you can sign out from Profile at any time, and you can delete any comment you wrote.

To delete everything, email hello@planina.app from the address you sign in with and ask for your account to be deleted. We delete the account and your comments within 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. One email to hello@planina.app is enough, and we answer within 30 days.

If you think we handled your data badly, you can complain to the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection of the Republic of Serbia.

Children

You have to be at least 16 to create an account. Anyone can use the map, the lifts, the weather and the news without one, because that part stores nothing about the person using it. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 16, we delete it.

Changes

When this policy changes we update the page and the date at the top. If a change matters, for example if we start collecting something new, we also say so in the app.
